What Makes A Good Candidate?

What makes a Good Candidate?

When you are looking for jobs, it’s not only your CV that potential employers/recruiters are looking at, so what else makes you more appealing as a candidate?

It’s important to remember that the first place employers/recruiters may find you, is on the job boards so it is key to ensure all of your details on here are up to date. It’s easy to upload a CV and leave it on there for a year or so, but you must remember to keep this updated; otherwise prospective employers may miss your most recent experience which may be relevant to your dream role. Likewise, ensure you keep the section based on ‘what you are looking for’ is kept up to date too – if you have the wrong salary or future job title then you may not even appear in recruiters’ searches!

The next step most employers may do is check your social media platforms so you must make sure these appear professional! We all know there is nothing funnier than posting a couple of pictures after a great night out where you may not be looking your best – but is this really how you want to come across to potential employers? It might be an idea to check those privacy settings out!!

So the employer has found your CV and they are keen to get in touch regarding your future role; but if there are old contact details on your CV or job board profile this isn’t possible. If you change your mobile number or email address it is essential that these are updated on both your CV and your online profiles otherwise that shiny new role could slip away…

The employer has now contacted you regarding the role, you are really excited and can’t wait to get an interview but you are working and it’s hard to find the time to get back to them. Picture this scenario from the employer’s point of view; they may see this as a lack of interest in the role so even if you can grab a minute to send an email and just say “can’t talk right now, will call later” it still maintains communication which will ultimately still show the employer you are interested.

We understand it can be hard when you are working full time or have other commitments to find time to get back to us regarding suitable roles but really; just keeping in contact – even to say you are busy will show us you are still keen! Hopefully these hints and tips will help you on your new job journey – remember we are always here to help so if you need our assistance then get in touch!
